Stop Zebra Mussels from Coming to Your
Lake!
MSRPO has a long tradition of hosting presentations by
Minnesota's Governors at our annual meeting. This year we did
invite all of the three major candidates to speak, but so far they
have all had conflicts. Independent candidate for Lt,
Governor, Jim Mulder will address MSRPO members. As a former
administrator for the House Tax Committee, Jim Mulder.
Last week DFL Candidate Mark Dayton, whose family has long had a
cabin on Lake Vermilion, took fifteen minutes to meet with MSRPO
Executive Director Jeff Forester. The two had a very
constructive exchange covering topics from Aquatic Invasive Species
to Property Tax and the recent failure of the shoreline Rules
process. Senator Dayton will send a letter to share at the
annual meeting. At present we are still waiting to hear back
from Rep. Tom Emmer regarding his ability to attend.
This is a particularly important election. It has become clear
that the next Governor must solve Minnesota's ailing state and
local fiscal system. We will need leadership and innovation and
courage. So come out, hear what the candidates have to say, and
meet the person who will be Minnesota's next Governor.
In addition to political issues, Jeff Forester will present a
program about Minnesota's latest invader, the Zebra Mussel.
Learn the damage this creature can cause, and share your
ideas on legislative measures that will help keep it out of your
lake.
