MSRPO Advocates for Lake Shore Owners at the Capitol

MSRPO is pulling together a broad coalition of lake shore owners, environmental groups, and lake associations, and leading the charge at the capitol to stop the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species, AIS.  This issue proved to people across the land of ten thousand lakes that what policy makers do in Saint Paul effects them on their docks up north.  With a full time lobbyist, and a statewide electronic database of concerned citizens, MSRPO has organized and focused intense grassroots pressure at the Capitol.  MSRPO gets the job done.

Passage of AIS legislation after years of stalls and frustrations in this area is a testamint to the power of an organized grass roots campaign.

This summer, by broadening our base of supporters, MSRPO can lay the groundwork for even better representation next year.

  • Increased use of Legacy Amendment Money for Lake and River protection, enhancement and restoration.
  • Incentives for shoreline restoration and protection
  • Overhaul and reform of state and local fiscal system to reduce property tax pressure instead of increasing it

MSRPO Executive Director Jeff Forester recognizes that these goals are not easy, and knows that individuals across the state must engage, and stay up to date on events in Saint Paul, to work actively to push an agenda that will help solve the many problems we face as stewards of Minnesota's most precious natural resources.  Grassroots power requires "feets on the streets" and joining MSRPO is the best way to know your voice is heard in Saint Paul.

There is also value in MSRPO for Lake Associations.  Lake Association Members get

  • News letter articles on state events of importance to their members
  • An annual meeting speaker
  • Representation on specific issues to your lake at the state capitol
  • Help organizing locally to respond to local events
  • Input on MSRPO's Legislative Agenda
  • Up to the minute Email Updates on bills and hearings at the capitol
